BONFIRES

Into leaping orange grass went
ex-artifacts, waving
goodbye as we hurled
idols into ash. We
watched the flames grow limbs

like that other night in
a hell-musement maze where
they threatened with molesters
and school shootings
until we screamed YES to Jesus
and flew like bats out of there

before going back to church
to put on our own show,
sulfur still fresh as we sent
hellfire walking down the aisles
to the end of the trail.
