LAST MINUTE LENTEN DISCIPLINES

Ash Wednesday is in two days!  Are you feeling the pressure to pick your Lenten discipline?  Did you just make plans to attend the Ash Wednesday evening service, because you need a few more hours to figure out what you’re giving up or taking on for Lent?  We’ve got you covered! Attend that early or noon service with confidence in your choice of discipline after choosing from one of these suggestions!

  • Is everyone around you giving up Facebook for Lent?  What if you took it on?  You read that right!  Stay connected on Facebook this Lent and learn holy patience as you force yourself to stay in relationship with all of those people, even during an election year.

  • Have you been jonesing for a Peloton bike?  Had a hankering to join a SoulCycle class? Wait no more!  Pick some sort of wellness activity you’ve wanted to do for a while, but make it a part of your ascetic life!

  • Use the TimeHop app, which will alert you and share posts you made on that day in years previous.  Yep, that’s it! Just stare into your past and see if you can survive it.

  • Have you been wanting to read more of the Bible, but struggle to find the time?  Some ideas for personal Lenten biblical reflection include: committing to memorize John 11:35, setting a goal to read the entire book of Philemon, or moving your Bible to the bedside table so that—if the Spirit so moves!—you are ready.

  • Instead of giving up TV for Lent, dedicate yourself to only watching reality shows, so that you can enter into Eastertide with a deep sense of cultural awareness.  Bachelor Peter really does have so much wisdom to share with us.
